FREEDOM IS AT HAND | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (December 1, 2024) with SL

Today is the First Sunday of Advent. We begin a new liturgical year by preparing for our joyful commemoration of the Lord’s birth.

The gospel reading is from the Gospel of Luke, where we would hear Jesus telling his disciples about the celestial and worldly events that will transpire and signal the coming of the Son of Man in his great glory.

What should they do? The Lord tells them: “Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”

How can we be vigilant, brothers and sisters? By praying, by looking for the Lord, and by not letting the anxieties of daily life overwhelm us. And where can we draw strength from the promise that when the Son of Man is near freedom is at hand.
