CMM - CFAM MEDIA MINISTRY
SAINT CYRIL OF JERUSALEM
BISHOP and DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH
Cyril was born in Jerusalem in 315. As a young priest he demonstrated such great doctrinal learning that he was entrusted with preparing candidates for baptism. To this end he wrote his Catecheses, which earned him immediate renown. When still only thirty-five he was made bishop of Jerusalem. Thanks to his doctrinal rigor he was soon hated by the Arians, who several times oppose him and exiled him. Reestablished by the emperor Theodosius, he exercised the ministry until his death, around 386.
He is depicted in episcopal vestments.
NAME: Cyril is of Persian origin and means “young lord.”
