Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "GOD'S ARMS ARE OPEN"

Verse of the Day: 1 John 1:9

Devotional Message:
(1 John 1:9)
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.

Observation:

Imagine a child who accidentally breaks a precious vase at home. Instead of hiding the pieces, the child goes to their parents, crying and apologizing. A loving parent, though saddened by the broken vase, does not turn the child away. Instead, they embrace the child, assure them of their love, and help clean up the mess.

This is how God treats us when we come to Him with our sins. He already knows our mistakes, but He doesn’t want us to hide in guilt and shame. Instead, He invites us to confess—to be honest about our wrongs—so that He can forgive and cleanse us.

1 John 1:9 tells us that God is faithful and just to forgive. Faithful means He always keeps His promises. If He says He will forgive, He will do it every single time. Just means He is fair. He does not overlook sin, but because Jesus paid the price for us, God can forgive us completely and make us clean again.

Application:

God’s arms are always open. He never says, “That’s enough—I won’t forgive you anymore.” Instead, He patiently waits for us to turn to Him.

But confession is more than just saying sorry. It means admitting our mistakes, asking for forgiveness, and turning away from sin. It’s like bringing a dirty shirt to be washed. If we want to be clean, we need to hand it over. The same goes for our hearts—we must give our sins to God so He can wash them away.

If you feel distant from God because of guilt, remember that He is not pushing you away—you are the one who needs to come back. No matter what you have done, He is ready to forgive.

Reflection Questions:

1. Is there anything in your life that you need to confess to God today?

2. Do you truly believe that God forgives you when you ask?

3. How can you show gratitude for God’s forgiveness?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and mercy. I confess my sins to You, knowing that You are faithful to forgive and cleanse me. Help me to turn away from sin and walk in Your light. Thank You for always keeping Your arms open for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
