Every generation whether in the Old Testament and New Testament has had its fair share of FAKES. The greatest fake of them all is Judas himself who fooled everyone except the Lord Jesus Christ. The tribulation period would be no different; it will have fake believers parading as genuine ones, but they will be exposed.
At the end of the day, it’s still the FRUIT which is evidence of GENUINENESS.
