BELIEVE AND OBEY THE LORD | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (May 4, 2025) with Sign Language

Today is the Third Sunday of Easter, and the gospel proclaims the appearance of the Risen Lord to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias.

The disciples were fishing; however, they caught nothing. When the Risen Lord unrecognized by them as Jesus, instructing them to cast their net over the right side of the boat—they were able to haul “one hundred fifty-three large fish.” The beloved disciple cried out to Peter “It is the Lord.”

After breakfast the Risen Lord entrusts the tending and feeding of his flock to Peter, which he lovingly did until his martyrdom and death. This ministry is what Saint Peter passed on to his successors, which include Pope Francis who shepherded the Church with compassion and mercy for all, who promoted peace and universal brotherhood, who rallied us to care for our common home, and whose passing we mourn.

Friends, today, let us pray for the grace to recognize the Risen Lord in his saving and life-giving actions. And let us remember, too, Pope Francis, who always taught us to lead our lives with hope—hope in the Risen Lord which will not disappoint.
