TOPIC: ARE WE TRULY GOD’S MISSIONARY DISCIPLES?
First Reading: First Kings 2: 1-4, 10-12
Responsorial Psalm: First Chronicles 29: 10, 11ab, 11d-12a, 12bcd
Alleluia: Mark 1: 15
Gospel: Mark 6: 7-13
In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus tells his twelve Apostles that they do not need food, money, a sack or a second tunic, in order to preach repentance, drive out demons and cure the sick. What they need is a companion, the authority to drive out demons, a walking stick and sandals. It is very clear that the success of their mission depends on the Lord who is sending them and He will be the one who will provide all their needs. Their task is to trust in him and not depend on money or other provisions.
This is quite a leap of faith ⏤ to go forth with nothing but sandals and a walking stick. My dear brothers and sisters, Jesus is sending us to the world as His missionaries, may we heed His call and be like St. John Bosco who dedicated his life in fulfilling his God-given role in saving souls.
This is the 1375th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Rouquel Ponte, a member of the CFC Board of Elders, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
