TOPIC: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO "DIE TO ONESELF" FOR CHRIST?
First Reading: Second Corinthians 9: 6-10
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 112: 1-2, 5-6, 7-8, 9
Alleluia: John 8: 12bc
Gospel: John 12: 24-26
Today's Gospel reading reminds us of the true meaning and cost of discipleship. The Lord says in Luke 9: 23: "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me."
As His disciples, we are to conform ourselves to Him Like the grain of wheat in the parable. We have to die to ourselves if we are to bear fruit. We must deny ourselves to free us from any attachments which may keep us from following Christ. When we die to ourselves, we rise to new life in Him.
This is the 1566th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: Let us listen to our brother Solphie Confiado as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
