Topic: Do I resist the hard sayings of Jesus? (10 May 2025 - Only By Grace Reflections)

First Reading: Acts 9: 31-42
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 116: 12-13, 14-15, 16-17
Alleluia: John 6: 63c, 68c
Gospel: John 6: 60-69

Today's Gospel depicts a turning point in Jesus' ministry where many of His disciples abandon Him due to His challenging teachings about the Eucharist. Many disciples find Jesus' teaching on “His flesh and blood as food and drink for eternal life” difficult to grasp and accept.

This highlights the tension between the human capacity to understand spiritual truths and the need for faith and trust in God's revelation. However, Peter's unwavering response "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life," exemplifies the true nature of faith.

Peter, despite not fully comprehending everything Jesus says, trusts in Jesus' authority and embraces Him as the source of eternal life. Are we willing to embrace difficult truths and to remain faithful to Jesus even when others abandon Him?
