TOPIC: CAN LESS BE GREATER THAN MORE?
First Reading: Acts 5: 34-42

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus feeds five thousand men, (plus at least as many women and children) with just two fish and five loaves of bread. By any stretch of imagination, this is an impossible task. As Philip nervously and worriedly pointed out, not even a year’s salary or the equivalent of two hundred denarii could buy enough food for such a crowd. Yet, when the Apostles handed over the meager resources to the Lord, they became more than enough to feed the multitude.
The same can be said for every Christian, for you and me. Our talents and wisdom are insufficient to defeat the forces of evil that rule the world. Our innate strength is not enough to end the selfishness, lust and greed that lurk withing the human heart. We often ask ourselves: How can the limited resources of a community, a parish, or diocese or even huge organizations be adequate to do battle with giant media outfits, corrupt politicians, cartels and other agents of the culture of death? We only have “five loaves and two fish.
Only if we put all we have into Christ’s hands, trusting in Him and not ourselves, can we hope to make a real difference for the good of the kingdom. Every small act of charity adds to the church’s much-needed reservoir of grace and strength. What we can never achieve on our own, we can immeasurably surpass with God. Truly, “For God everything is possible”.
