We find that Jesus’ attitude towards the law of God can be summed up in the great prayer of Psalm 119: “Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.” For the people in Jesus' time, the law referred either to the Ten Commandments or to the Pentateuch, which is the five Books of Moses. This set of books explains the Ten Commandments and the ordinances derived from the revelations of God for his people.
As a rabbi, Jesus was very much aware of the written law. But what He taught was that the law referred more to the whole way of life that God intended for His people, living with one another and governed by His precepts that are based on love. The law of God is love and when we live according to love, we reap the fruits of righteousness, holiness, peace, and joy.
This is the 1507th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Raymond Bucu, South Asia Regional Coordinator and Provincial Area Head of Bataan, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
