TOPIC: IS THERE A SPIRIT OF PERSISTENCE IN OUR PRAYER?
First Reading: Genesis 2: 18-25
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 128: 1-2, 3, 4-5
Alleluia: James 1: 21bc
Gospel: Mark 7: 24-30
The opposite of persistent is cold. We cannot imagine a prayer that is bland and without expectation. Some prayers and attitudes are cold simply because we allowed them to be so. Do we wonder how the water in the river could cut through a rock? It’s not because of power, but because of persistence. God honors those who do not give up. They will elicit the Master's mercy and will be given victory.
Let us not get tired of praying. Will God ask us to pray and not listen? Of course He will!!! The essence of God is to love. Like a lifeguard, He would watch and wait all day. And a distress call will be an opportunity for Him to show what and who He is—God and Savior. So He would rush to us with so much vigor and compassion to save. How much more when a distress call comes from His children?
