Topic: Am I an "eye for an eye" person? (16 June 2026 - Only By Grace Reflections)

First Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:1-10
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 98:1, 2b, 3ab, 3cd-4
Alleluia: Psalm 119:105
Gospel: Matthew 5:38-42

Way back in the Old Testament, there was a law that said, “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.” It meant no more escalating revenge, just equal justice. But Jesus came and said, “That’s not enough anymore. I’m calling you to more.”

Jesus wasn’t just talking about letting people take advantage of us. He was teaching us a new kind of strength: the strength to love when it’s hardest, the strength to show mercy even when it costs us.

Is there someone in your life who has wronged you, and you're still carrying the weight of that hurt? Maybe it’s a friend, a family member, a co-worker. Ask yourself: am I still living in that “eye for an eye” mindset? Or am I ready to step into that next level of love, where I let go, forgive, and even bless that person?
