TOPIC: DO YOU HAVE THE COURAGE TO MAKE A STAND FOR GOD?
First Reading: First Samuel 17: 32-33, 37, 40-51
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 144: 1b, 2, 9-10
Alleluia: Matthew 4: 23
Gospel: Mark 3: 1-6
The Sabbath law prohibited people from doing their regular work so they could rest and be refreshed from their labors. But for Jesus, the Sabbath was never meant to be a day for people to suffer and remain under the burden of need when that need could be met. The Pharisees would have left this poor man in the bondage of need out of a distorted devotion to their own concept of the law, using the law of God in a way that inflicts cruelty upon people, not blessings.
Thus Jesus was compelled to ask, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?"
This is the 1360th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Raymond Bucu, South Asia Regional Coordinator and Provincial Area Head of Bataan., as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
