Jesus’ teaching may seem so counter-cultural, now and then. Today, we live in a world where divorce has become a common remedy to the so-called “ills of marriages.” In response to the question of the Pharisees, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” Jesus brings them to the Father’s original plan. The key is that Jesus does not simply add new laws; he brings the grace to be able to live as God intended "from the beginning," that is before sin entered the world. He reminded them of the vocation to love, as well as reminded them of a God who created them for something greater than what human laws formulate.
This is the 1211th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
