TOPIC: WHY SHOULD I ALWAYS CALL UPON THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST?
First Reading: Genesis 49: 2, 8-10
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 72: 1-2, 3-4ab, 7-8, 17
Gospel: Matthew 1: 1-17
Brothers and sisters, the Child is God described as Emmanuel, “God is with us”. His Name is Jesus “because he will save his people from their sins.”
In invoking the Name of Jesus, we acknowledge that God is the Saviour; we are those who are in peril. He is the physician; we are the infirm. To realize this is the first step towards salvation, towards emerging from the maze in which we have been locked by our pride. “ (Pope Benedict XVI)
This is why invoking the name of Jesus is not based on our own willpower. We “cannot profess Jesus, we cannot speak of Jesus, we cannot say anything about Jesus without the Holy Spirit”, says Pope Francis. It is the Holy Spirit himself “who urges us to profess Jesus or to talk about Jesus or to have trust in Jesus”.
This is the 1697th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: Let us listen to our brother Arnel Santos, a member of the CFC Board of Elders and Mission Head for Asia, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives. This video is also available on Couples for Christ’s Facebook page. In You Tube, just type ONLY BY GRACE REFLECTIONS]
