TOPIC: WHAT TEMPTATIONS MUST I OVERCOME TO PROGRESS IN MY SPIRITUAL LIFE AND GROW IN HOLINESS?
First Reading: Genesis 9: 8-15
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 25: 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
Second Reading: First Peter 3: 18-22
Verse Before the Gospel: Matthew 4: 4b
Gospel: Mark 1: 12-15
St. Augustine's second conversion revealed to us the mystery of God's descent. When it comes to the spiritual life, many of us undergo the process by which we become sanctified and transformed by the very life of God as we begin to follow Christ and leave our sinful habits behind. As we journey towards God, we begin to imitate the virtues that Christ modeled for us.
However, there is more to holiness than just our willpower and our efforts to carve away our weaknesses. The mystery of God's descent is the reality of a God coming down to meet us in our utter weaknesses, frailties, and lowliness.
As we face our temptations, may we be assured that we will be able to overcome them with Jesus. May our conversion be complete just like Saint Augustine. May our hearts be restless until it finally rests in God.
This is the 1392nd installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Israel Silud, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
