Gospel: Matthew 5: 13-16
Today’s Gospel is taken from: Matthew 5: 43-48. In a nutshell, it talks about loving our enemies ⏤ do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you; and to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Those two directions are very difficult to follow, indeed, especially as the loving entails unconditional forgiveness no matter how much hurt and pain and agony the “enemy” has caused us. But still, many have overcome or have never entertained hatred for enemies. The most celebrated examples are St. John Paul II and Jesus Himself.
This is the 1157th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
