Yesterday we celebrated Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. On this day, the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus' disciples to empower and give them new life, hope, and vigor to spread the gospel. Today, we celebrate the Memorial of Mary, the Mother of the Church. As Jesus is the Head of the Church, Mary, who is Jesus' Mother, is the Mother of the Church. She is the embodiment of a person whose faith in God is unquestionable. She is somebody who will intercede for us, as seen at the wedding feast in Cana. She is somebody who will stand by with us even in tough times, as seen in her witnessing the crucifixion and death of her son.
Today's gospel echoes the themes of perseverance, redemption, and the transformative power of a mother's love. In our prayer time today, let us honor our Blessed Mother for continuously interceding for us.
