TOPIC: ARE YOU FOCUSED IN JUST SERVING GOD IN ALL THAT YOU DO?
First Reading: Acts 1: 15-17, 20-26
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 113: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8
Alleluia: John 15: 16
Gospel: John 15: 9-17
Our Lord Jesus Christ reminds His disciples, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and servant of all.” This is because in their desire to follow and serve the Lord, they fell into the temptation of aiming to be the greatest among the other disciples, something that Christ needs to address by reminding them of what should be their posture in service.
Sometimes in serving our God, there is a tendency for us to desire to be the best, rather than to give our best. We are tempted to shift our focus from just serving the Lord by doing whatever we can as His servants, to being acknowledged as one of His best servants.
Christ is reminding us to just focus in serving Him, and not to compare ourselves with other servants. Serving God does not include having the need to be acknowledged, and more so to be acknowledged as great. It is already a blessing for us to have been called to serve Him, and that is already a gift and privilege.
This is the 1485th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
