Gospel: John 10: 1-10
Jesus uses the metaphor of a shepherd and his sheep to convey profound truths about his relationship with his followers. He begins by contrasting the true shepherd, who enters through the gate and cares for his sheep, with thieves and robbers who seek to steal and destroy. Jesus emphasizes that his sheep know his voice and follow him, distinguishing him as the Good Shepherd who leads them to safety and abundance.
Jesus promises abundant life to those who follow him, contrasting this with the thieves who come only to steal, kill, and destroy. He declares himself as the gate for the sheep, emphasizing that through him, they find access to God and salvation. Jesus portrays himself as the caring and protective shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep, highlighting the sacrificial nature of his love.
