First Reading: Judges 6: 11-24a

Gospel: Matthew 19: 23-30
In our gospel today from Matthew 19:23-30, Jesus Christ tells his disciples, “And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life.” We are called to follow Jesus, even at the cost of leaving or giving up even the most important things or persons in our life. What a very difficult challenge just to be able to show our faithfulness to our God!
But when we follow the Lord and give up anything for Him, He is faithful to give a hundredfold of what we have given up! Pope Benedict XVI said, “God is always faithful in His promises, but He often surprises us in the way He fulfills them.” Let us commit to follow our Lord Jesus Christ wherever He may lead us, confident that He will not forsake us, but instead bless us hundredfold of whatever we will give up just to be able to follow Him.
