TOPIC: ARE WE FAITHFUL AND COMMITTED EVANGELIZERS?
First Reading: First Peter 5: 5b-14
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 89: 2-3, 6-7, 16-17
Alleluia: First Corinthians 1: 23a, 24b
Gospel: Mark 16: 15-20
Today’s Gospel begins with the Great Commission: “Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: ‘Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.’” But let us be reminded of our role as evangelizers from the words of Pope Benedict XVI who said: “It is important always to know that the first word, the true initiative, the true activity comes from God and only by inserting ourselves into the divine initiative, only begging for this divine initiative, shall we too be able to become ⏤ with him and in him ⏤ evangelizers.”
If we believe and trust, God can do great things with us and through us, for nothing is impossible for Him. Our assignment is to do our part, knowing the work belongs to God and to His Body the Church. We pray that like St. Mark we may persevere as servants of the Gospel, confident that the hidden work we do in God’s vineyard will be an eternal hymn to His goodness.
Let us also celebrate and thank the Lord that on this day, April 25, the Feast of St. Mark, in the year 2000, Couples for Christ received its Vatican recognition ad experimentum and was affirmed with a definitive approval on the same day in 2005.
