TOPIC: DO YOU FIND CONFIDENCE IN GOD'S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE DESPITE YOUR SINS?
First Reading: Isaiah 49: 1-6
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 71: 1-2, 3-4a, 5ab-6ab, 15 and 17
Gospel: John 13: 21-33, 36-38
Christ’s conversation with His apostles during the Last Supper, Christ pointed out that there are those among them who will betray Him, notwithstanding the close relationships He has already formed with them.
One of them, Simon Peter, found it difficult to believe and accept that he was one of those who would betray Christ, affirming his love for Christ and emphatically stating that he would lay down his life for Christ’s sake!
Judas Iscariot and Simon Peter were two brilliant apostles of Jesus. Judas was the treasurer of the group, and Peter was a passionate leader anointed by Christ to lead His church. But despite their giftedness, they still committed the very serious sin of betraying Jesus Christ!
Indeed, all of us, no matter what our backgrounds are, no matter what sacrifices we are willing to do for our God, can all commit lapses and failures as we follow Him. But the good thing is, our Lord Jesus Christ knows it, and He is embracing us despite it!
How do we know that Christ loves us for who we are, even if we sin? St. Paul wrote to the Romans, “But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). We can find confidence in God’s love, not for our righteousness, but because of His unconditional love!
