TOPIC: CAN YOU STILL FOCUS ON GOD IN THE MIDST OF DISTRACTIONS IN LIFE?

First Reading: Daniel 2: 31-45

Gospel: Luke 21: 5-11

Our gospel today reminds us of the signs of the coming of the kingdom of God, the end of times, where many, who will come in the name of God, will foment wars, and nations will rise against nations. We know these are actually already happening and so Jesus’ reminder for us to be steadfast in our faith and to not be afraid is timely.

As we live our lives according to God’s plan, we will face many trials and challenges. Our spiritual journey in community has taught us that the more we come closer to our God, the more Satan will do everything to distract us, to make us feel that the challenges we are facing are too much for us to handle.

So, we must always be mindful of what Jesus reminds us - Do not be afraid. Let us continue to hold on to our God, steadfast in faith, with eyes fixed on Him. Saint Augustine said, “He who loves the coming of the Lord is not he who affirms that it is far off, nor is it he who says it is near, but rather he who, whether it be far off or near, awaits it with sincere faith, steadfast hope, and fervent love.”
