Gospel: Luke 9: 7-9
Our Gospel reading for today from Luke 9:7-9 portrays King Herod as a man whose priorities are disordered and whose vision is clouded by the darkness of his own soul. Although it was not yet the time for Jesus to make the ultimate sacrifice, this episode marked the beginning of His persecution that led Him to death on the Cross.
My dear brothers and sisters, martyrdom for our faith is never easy as shown in the life of San Lorenzo Ruiz, whose feast we celebrate today. But our call is to be martyrs not necessarily to be condemned to death, but to die to ourselves in various ways that we can be life-giving to others.
This is the 1252nd installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
