TOPIC: HOW DO WE EXPERIENCE THE REALITIES OF THE MULTIFACETED LIBERATION THAT GOD HAS ACCOMPLISHED FOR US THROUGH THE DEATH OF JESUS CHRIST?
First Reading: First Peter 1: 18-25
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 147: 12-13, 14-15, 19-20
Alleluia: Mark 10: 45
Gospel: Mark 10: 32-45
Jesus corrects His disciples' vision by explaining how greatness among Jesus’ followers is measured by their ability to live as servants and slaves, even if that life meant suffering oppression at the hands of those who wield power. Through His death, God will free people from all kinds of oppression and captivity emanating from the constructs of social and political power that human beings concoct to control each other.
It will be a radical liberation; radical because the liberation will lead to freedom from the bondage of sin. His death will secure a release, not in the transactional sense but a liberation from sin proclaimed by divine strength and because of the identity of the One who causes it: Jesus, the only begotten Son of God.
This is the 1495th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
