TOPIC: HAVE YOU EVER GONE THROUGH A “BOUT” WITH “DOUBT”?
First Reading: Ephesians 2: 19-22
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 117: 1bc, 2
Alleluia: John 20: 29
Gospel: John 20: 24-29
When we are uncertain, it can seem hard to know what to do. We put pressure on ourselves to hide our doubts and frustrations even though God is already fully aware of them! The beauty of healthy relationships is their depth of vulnerability and trust, and the freedom to be authentic. One of the shortest, yet most profound biblical examples of this is the story of “Doubting Thomas” which you will find in today’s gospel in John 20:24-29. Thomas was very dedicated to the Lord, which is why he is part of Jesus’ inner circle. However, he wasn’t there when Jesus appeared to the rest, hence, his doubting spirit somehow became his “identity”.
But the point of the story of Thomas is about God’s ceaseless grace, which invites us to walk closer with Him. He will meet us in our doubt. He will speak calmness, life, and truth into our uncertainty. Take heart! God is for us, even in our doubts.
This is the 1177th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Eric Villanueva, CFC Europe & Africa Missions Head, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives. This video is also available on Couples for Christ’s Facebook page. In You Tube, just type ONLY BY GRACE REFLECTIONS]
