TOPIC: ARE YOU PREPARED TO HANDLE REJECTION BECAUSE OF YOUR FAITH?
First Reading: Second Peter 1: 2-7
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 91: 1-2, 14-15b, 15c-16
Alleluia: Revelation 1: 5ab
Gospel: Mark 12: 1-12
Jesus used the image of a "rejected stone" to describe his forthcoming death. He was the stone rejected by the builders. Yet, this image contains hope, as Jesus quotes a psalm: the stone rejected by the builders became the cornerstone. Despite being rejected and crucified, Jesus, in his unwavering faith, was raised from the dead and became the cornerstone of the Church. God brought great good out of Jesus' dark and painful rejection and death because Jesus remained faithful to God throughout his suffering.
As we navigate our own lives, striving to follow the Lord's path, we may often feel like the rejected stone. Our gospel values, cherished and held dear, may not be shared by many, leading to demoralization and discouragement. However, today's gospel reminds us of our call to remain faithful to the Lord, even in the face of such challenges.
This is the 1498th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
