Gospel: Matthew 8: 23-27
Our gospel today from Matthew 8:23-27 tells us about the fear experience of Christ’s disciples when they faced a violent storm while on a boat and being swamped by the waves. This happened while Jesus was with them. The account tells us that they have a certain level of faith in Jesus all along, it just so happened that they noticed He was sleeping in the midst of the storm and seems that He doesn’t care at all. That’s why they woke Him up and said to Him “Lord, save us, we are perishing!”
When we face a similar situation, do we feel afraid all the more, especially when things get far beyond our control? During those times, we may think that God is not doing anything. However, Christ must have wanted them (and us) to do this — that whether we see Him doing something actively or not, we should trust that God is in control, and He will never abandon nor forsake us, even in the midst of the storm.
