First Reading: First Thessalonians 4: 13-18

Gospel: Luke 4: 16-30
In today's gospel in Luke 4:16-30 we find Jesus in Nazareth. According to his custom, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up and read a passage from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
At first, people were amazed but when they realized that he was the son of Joseph the carpenter, and Jesus said that no prophet are welcomed in his hometown, when the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury. They rose up, drove him out of the town.
A good reflection on this gospel is that opposition and hardship does not mean you are on the wrong path. Jesus was rejected and if you consider yourself as His follower, you should expect the same treatment. Jesus’ first recorded sermon did not go well by human standards, but failure is never final. Jesus’ example teaches us to expect the occasional uphill battle, setback, and rejection as we continue on with our Christian journey. We can rest in the knowledge that God never abandons His followers.
