TOPIC: WHAT IS THE MEANING OF GOD'S COMMANDMENTS IN YOUR LIFE?
First Reading: Deuteronomy 4:1, 5-9
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 147: 12-13, 15-16, 19-20
Verse Before the Gospel: John 6: 63c, 68c
Gospel: Matthew 5: 17-19
The law of love fulfills all of God's commandments. It extends to all created beings in the universe. No one is outside this law. Not even the smallest part of creation escapes its call. Jesus' words about the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter of the law coming to pass speaks to us of the efficacy of the law of love.
Sins committed against the old law, exemplified in the Ten Commandments, are grave transgressions but they are easy to define, manifested as they are to external acts of a person. But the commandments of Jesus against sins like excessive anger and lust in the heart, or the commandment to forgive our enemies, have more subtle expressions, thus more difficult to obey. They require interior cleansing brought about by an enlightened understanding of and the presence in our hearts of divine love.
This is the 1409th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Raymond Bucu, South Asia Regional Coordinator and Provincial Area Head of Bataan, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
