Topic: If to know Jesus is to love Him, what does my life reveal about who He is? (7 August 2025 - Only By Grace Reflections)

First Reading: Numbers 20:1-13
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9
Alleluia: Matthew 16:18
Gospel: Matthew 16:13-23

Sometimes our good intentions—when not aligned to God’s will—can become a stumbling block. Or perhaps, God's ways may seem more difficult compared to our easier ways. Later on, Peter learned God's way and became obedient like a rock, which is why despite his weaknesses he was made head of the Church.

God will call us to do something for God and we might resist. “Why me, Lord?” But why not? God sees who we are but also who we can be if we follow in faith. Like Peter, we all have moments of strength and weaknesses. We may be delaying or even blocking God’s ways. Or we might be allowing our human emotions to interfere with God's direction?

To know Christ is to love Christ. If we have not loved Him enough, let us meet Him in prayer, and we will find him. Let us receive Him in the Eucharist, and He will reveal Himself. If He seems distant or absent, He may be pushing us to seek Him more earnestly.
