TOPIC: DO WE HONOR THE LORD IN THE WAY WE TREAT OUR NEIGHBOR?
First Reading: First Corinthians 4: 6b-15
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 145: 17-18, 19-20, 21
Alleluia: John 14: 6
Gospel: Luke 6: 1-5
In the scriptures, Jesus argues that human need takes precedence over ritual custom. In today's Gospel reading, the Pharisees say so much about the state of their hearts by saying so little: "Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?" The Pharisees are all focused on external details of the law and fail to perceive the big picture that Christ came to bring: complete love for God and selfless love for one's neighbor. As followers of Christ, we are called to have an unconditionally loving heart rather than one that weighs costs.
This is the 1594th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: Let us listen to our brother Solphie Confiado, Country Coordinator for CFC Egypt, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
