Our gospel today tells us a particular story about Peter walking on water. The account tells us about the disciples of Jesus getting into a boat and precede Him to the other side.
However, after Peter walked on water, he got distracted by the strong winds and began to sink. Immediately, he asked Jesus to save him which the latter did, addressing him as someone of little faith. But one important point to take note from the story is the faith of Peter — yes our Lord Jesus Christ addressed him towards the end of having “little faith”, but it was Peter to begin with who had the guts to ask Jesus to tell him to go to Him, and actually stepped out of the boat and walked on water!
We ourselves might not even have that amount of “little faith” Peter had, as we have the tendency to fall in out of faith. Pope Benedict XVI once said, “An adult faith does not follow the waves of fashion and the latest novelties.” Indeed, following our Lord Jesus Christ is not easy. It may look attractive and feel exciting at the beginning, but the real challenge comes when we actually “step out of the boat” and walk where Jesus leads.
