TOPIC: HOW DO WE LOVE GOD AND OUR NEIGHBOR?

First Reading: Tobit 6: 10-11; 7: 1bcde, 9-17; 8: 4-9a

Gospel: Mark 12: 28-34

Reflecting in today’s Gospel, I was asking myself, how do I fulfill the two greatest commandments of loving God with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind, with all my strength and loving my neighbor as myself? I remained quiet for some time but no words came to mind, nor did I feel any prompting in my heart ⏤ I just felt at peace as I ended my prayer time.

My brothers and sisters, I received an answer to my question on how to fulfill the two greatest commandments but like the scribe in today’s Gospel, I realized that I may have the correct answer, but I need to cooperate with God’s sanctifying grace and be a good witness in daily living.

Let us love God wholeheartedly by loving the people He loves, our neighbor especially the poor. A practical way is to practice the corporal works of mercy, namely, Feed the hungry; Give drink to the thirsty; Give alms to the poor; Shelter the homeless; Visit the sick; Visit the imprisoned; Bury the dead.
