In today’s Gospel reading a Canaanite woman called the Lord the son of David and gave the Lord homage befitting the status of Jesus as King, while in the same breath asked the Lord to heal her daughter. The Scripture text indicate a tense exchange between God, who seems ready to deny the woman’s request, and the woman, who despite the initial lack of response from the Lord, displayed much faith, humility and much determination to get the healing her daughter needs.
There seems to be a connection between those who kneel before Jesus and the healings that He performs. Like the woman in the gospel narrative, may God graciously grant us her kind of faith—a faith that just won’t give up, a faith that trusts Him completely, the kind that won’t let go of His promises, and carries us safely through this world, eventually into the arms of our loving, waiting Savior in the world to come!
