Topic: Do I respond with faith and trust in God when I meet trials and disappointments? (9 August 2025 - Only By Grace Reflections)
First Reading: Deuteronomy 6:4-13
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 18:2-3a, 3bc-4, 47 and 51
Alleluia: 2 Timothy 1:10
Gospel: Matthew 17:14-20
What kind of faith does the Lord expect of us, especially when we meet setbacks and trials? In the Gospel, the disciples' inability to heal the boy reveals their limited faith in Jesus' power and their reliance on their own abilities. This can be a reflection of our own tendency to rely on ourselves rather than on God.
Jesus emphasizes that even a small amount of faith, like a mustard seed, can move mountains and accomplish the seemingly impossible. Faith, when combined with God's power, can conquer seemingly impossible challenges.
If we pray with expectant faith, God will give us the means to overcome difficulties and obstacles. When we meet trials and disappointments how do we respond? With faith and trust in Jesus?
