TOPIC: WHAT IMPEDIMENT IS PREVENTING YOU FROM BEING A GIFT TO OTHERS?
First Reading: First Kings 11: 29-32; 12: 19
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 81: 10-11ab, 12-13, 14-15
Alleluia: Acts 16: 14b
Gospel: Mark 7: 31-37
The Gospel reading for today focused on a man who was also deaf. Not only was he deaf, he also had a speech impediment. It was almost impossible for the man to communicate with anyone.
Noticeably, the man himself did not approach Jesus. It was the man’s friends who brought him to Jesus to be healed, (much like the story of the paralytic whose four friends lowered him down a hole on the roof so Jesus could heal him). They begged the Lord to heal the deaf man but rather He takes him away from the crowd. Perhaps Jesus realized that the man did not want a “show”, and most likely, Jesus did not want to be a “showman”. Jesus was a man of love and compassion. He simply desired to make the man “whole” once again.
This is the 1385th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Jess Ferrer, Head of the CFC Migrants Program, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
