We are on the 15th Sunday in ordinary time and in today's gospel we would hear a familiar parable. A sower went out and sowed seeds.

Some fell on the footpath, but the birds ate them up. Others fell on rocky ground. They sprung up, but withered under the sun. Still, others fell among thorns that grew up and choked them, and then there were seeds that fell on rich soil and they produced fruit. The question of the disciples is an invitation to us.
Why did Jesus preach in parables? Because the word he proclaims needs an active reception. What kind of soil are we? How do we receive and respond to God's word? God trusts in us. Our prayer is to become good and trustworthy. Soil that will receive God's word and bear fruit for God's kingdom.
