Ang Sumbanan ug Ang Pasaylo

Balaod ug Grasya (The Law and Grace)

In Christian theology, "The Law and Grace" represents a profound balance between God's justice and mercy, shaping our understanding of His expectations, character, and redemptive plan for humanity. The Law, often associated with the Old Testament commandments, provides the moral and ethical standards of God. Grace, fully revealed through Jesus Christ, offers redemption, forgiveness, and the strength to live in a relationship with God. Together, the Law and Grace embody God's righteous standards and His compassionate provision for our human limitations.

The Purpose of the Law;
The Law, given through Moses, is God’s standard for holiness and righteousness. Its purpose is to reveal God's nature and to show humanity its need for a Savior by making us aware of sin. Romans 7:7 states, “I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law.” The Law acts as a mirror, reflecting God’s standards and our own shortcomings.

The Law’s Limitations;
While the Law defines righteousness, it is unable to provide the power to live it out perfectly. Humanity, because of its sinful nature, falls short of the Law’s requirements. Galatians 3:24 describes the Law as a “guardian” that leads us to Christ, showing us our need for grace. This limitation of the Law underscores the need for a Savior who could fulfill its demands on our behalf.

Grace in the New Covenant;
Grace, which is God’s unearned favor, is revealed through Jesus Christ. Romans 6:14 declares, “For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” Through grace, God provides forgiveness, freedom, and a new identity in Christ, empowering believers to live righteously through the Holy Spirit’s guidance rather than by human effort alone.

The Relationship Between Law and Grace;
The Law and Grace are not contradictory but complementary. The Law reveals what sin is, and grace provides the means to overcome it. Jesus did not come to abolish
