AVOID ENVY | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (September 20, 2026) with Sign Language

We are on the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time; in today’s gospel, we shall hear a parable about working in God’s vineyard.

Jesus puts it this way: there is a landowner who hired workers for his vineyard at different times of the day. The first batch agreed for the usual daily wage. To the succeeding batches, the landowner committed to giving them what is just.

In the evening, the workers were called to receive their wages. The first batch complained because they received the same wage as those hired last, when it was they “who bore the day’s burden and the heat.”

We might think that the landowner is unjust—but in truth, he is truly just and generous. He honored his agreement with the first batch, and his offer to the succeeding batches.

This illustrates how God operates and deals with us, brothers and sisters. God is faithful to his Word. God always delivers his part. God is generous and gracious to all. We sometimes complain, not out of justice but out of envy. Avoid envy.
