Devotional Message:
(1 Samuel 3:10)
"Then Samuel said, 'Speak, for your servant is listening."

Observation:

In this story, we meet young Samuel, a boy who was serving in the temple under Eli, the priest. Samuel had never heard God’s voice before, and one night, God called out to him. At first, Samuel thought it was Eli calling, so he kept running to him. But after the third time, Eli realized it was God trying to speak to Samuel. Eli told Samuel to go back and say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”

And so, when God called again, Samuel answered, and that moment changed his life. From that day forward, God began to speak to him regularly, and Samuel became one of the greatest prophets in Israel.

This story is powerful because it shows us that God speaks, and not just to adults, prophets, or important people—but to a young boy like Samuel. God’s voice wasn’t thunder or fire—it was personal and direct, calling Samuel by name.

Sometimes, we imagine hearing God's voice as something loud and dramatic. But more often, it’s gentle, quiet, and personal—like a whisper to our hearts.

Application:

Just like Samuel, many of us may not realize that God is already trying to speak to us. He can speak through His Word (the Bible), through prayer, through other people, through the Holy Spirit, and even through the situations we face in life.

But the problem is, we’re often too distracted to listen. We’re so caught up in our phones, our worries, our schedules, and our plans, that we miss God’s gentle voice calling out to us.

That’s why Samuel’s response is so important:
“Speak, for your servant is listening.”

It’s a short sentence, but it shows a big heart—one that is ready to hear and obey God.

If we want to hear God more clearly, we need to:

1. Be still – Create quiet moments where we put everything aside and simply listen.

2. Be open – Ask God to speak to us
