Devotional Message:
(2 Samuel 15:26)
"Let him do to me whatever seems good to him."

Observation:
In this part of David’s story, he is not in his palace surrounded by soldiers and servants. He is not writing joyful psalms or celebrating victories. Instead, we find David heartbroken, humiliated, and on the run. His own son, Absalom, has rebelled against him and taken over the kingdom. David is forced to leave Jerusalem in shame, walking barefoot with his head covered, weeping as he climbs the Mount of Olives.

Now picture this scene: a powerful king, walking barefoot, not in strength, but in sorrow. Betrayed by his own flesh and blood. Surrounded by loyal followers who don’t know what will happen next. And yet, in the middle of this heartbreak, David says something truly powerful in verse 26: “But if He says, ‘I am not pleased with you,’ then I am ready; let Him do to me whatever seems good to Him.”

These are not the words of a man who has given up. These are the words of someone who knows God deeply. David doesn’t try to fight back with pride or anger. He doesn’t blame God. He simply surrenders. He places his entire life — his future, his throne, and even his pain — into God’s hands.

David had made mistakes. He wasn’t a perfect man. He had sinned. And maybe, in this moment, he was wondering if this trial was part of God’s discipline. But even in that uncertainty, he chooses trust over control, surrender over fear, and faith over despair.

Application:
The truth is, we all go through seasons that feel like an uphill journey. Life isn’t always smooth or easy. Sometimes we are faced with challenges that feel too heavy to carry: a family member turns their back on you, someone you trusted disappoints you, you lose a job, or maybe you’re facing illness, anxiety, or depression. And in those moments, it’s tempting to ask, “God, why? Why is this happening to me?”
