Devotional Message:
(Matthew 20:28)
"The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve."

Introduction:

Have you ever felt that the world is always telling us to climb higher, aim bigger, and focus on ourselves? That to be important, we have to be noticed, followed, liked, praised, and admired? Whether it's in school, work, social media, or even in the home, we often feel the pressure to be served—to be the one in charge, the one with attention and recognition.

But in Matthew 20:28, Jesus turns that idea upside down.

Jesus, the Son of God—our Savior and King—did not come demanding service. He came to serve. And not just to serve in the easy ways, but in the deepest way possible: by giving His life for us.

Observation:

Let’s think about who Jesus is. He is the Creator of everything. He has all power. Angels worship Him. He could have come into the world with glory, riding on clouds with trumpets and fire. But instead, He was born in a simple stable, grew up in a humble family, and lived a life that wasn’t focused on Himself.

He healed the sick, welcomed the rejected, and fed the hungry. He didn’t ask for anything in return. When His disciples were arguing about who among them was the greatest, Jesus took a towel and washed their feet—something that only the lowliest servant would do. He told them, “If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”

Then, He did the most powerful act of service—He gave His life for our sins. Not because we deserved it, but because He loved us. He paid the price we could never pay, so we could be free and saved.

That’s the kind of service Jesus is talking about. It’s not about being seen. It’s not about being praised. It’s about loving others, even when it costs us something.
