Devotional Message:
(John 20:4)
"Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first."

Observation

In John 20:4, we see Peter and John running to the tomb after Mary Magdalene told them that Jesus’ body was no longer there. This verse may seem small or even insignificant at first glance—it just tells us who ran faster. But when we slow down and look deeper, we see something powerful.

The disciples were running toward Jesus. They were running to find the truth. They were running because their hearts were filled with hope, fear, confusion, and maybe even excitement. They had just heard something unbelievable—that the tomb was empty. Could it be true? Could Jesus really be alive?

John reached the tomb first, but what matters more is that both disciples ran. They didn’t walk. They didn’t wait to see what others would do. They ran.

This tells us something about their hearts. When they thought there was a chance that Jesus was alive, they dropped everything and ran to Him. This shows urgency, desire, and passion.

Application

How often do we run to Jesus in our own lives?

Sometimes, when we’re going through hard times—sickness, fear, loneliness, family problems—we try to fix everything ourselves. We go to friends, social media, or distractions, hoping to find comfort. But Jesus is calling us to come to Him first—not as a last resort.

Like the disciples, we must learn to run to Jesus—not walk, not delay, not hesitate. We must run with our hearts wide open, no matter what we’re feeling. Whether we are joyful or broken, confused or confident, Jesus wants us to come to Him.

Running to Jesus means:

Praying first before panicking

Opening our Bibles when we feel lost

Worshiping even when life hurts

Trusting His promises even when we can’t see the full picture

Also, notice that both disciples ran, but John got there first. That’s okay! Everyone
