Devotional Message:
(Romans 13:14)
"Do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh."
Introduction:
Have you ever tried carrying something heavy for a long time? Maybe a heavy bag or a full bucket of water. At first, you might think, “This is fine, I can handle this.” But after a while, your arms get tired, your back starts to hurt, and your hands begin to ache. That’s what it's like when we hold on to things in life that God is asking us to let go.
This message is for all of us who are tired of carrying the weight of sin, past mistakes, anger, bad habits, unforgiveness, fear, or pride. God is inviting you today to let it go.
Observation (What the Word is Saying):
In Romans 13:14, the Apostle Paul gives a very clear and powerful instruction: “Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.” This is an action. It’s something we have to do, just like getting dressed each morning. He’s saying that every day, we must make a decision to live like Jesus, walk like Jesus, and think like Jesus.
Paul adds, “Do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” The "flesh" here doesn’t just mean our physical body. It means our old, sinful nature—the part of us that wants to lie, cheat, gossip, be selfish, hold grudges, and chase after things that don’t please God.
The more we “think about” those desires, the more likely we are to give in to them. That’s why Paul warns us not to even entertain those thoughts. Instead, we should turn our focus toward Jesus—His love, His holiness, and His purpose for our lives.
Imagine someone trying to wear clean clothes over a dirty, stinky outfit. It doesn’t work! The smell still comes through. The dirt still stains. You can’t wear Christ and sin at the same time. One has to go. So today, we are called to take off the old and put on the new. Let it go.
Application (What We Can Do):
Now let’s bring this into our everyday life. What
