Devotional Message:
(Romans 6:23)
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Imagine that every choice we make has a price tag. Just like when we go to a store and pay for items, our actions in life also have consequences. This Bible verse helps us understand the consequences of sin and the wonderful gift that God offers to us. Let’s explore this together and see what it means for our lives today.

1. Understanding “Wages of Sin”

The verse starts by saying, “The wages of sin is death.” Let’s break that down:

- Wages: These are what we earn or deserve from our actions. Just like a job pays you for your work, sin “pays” us something, too.
- Sin: This is anything that separates us from God. It includes our wrong thoughts, words, and actions.
- Death: This doesn’t just mean physical death. It’s about being separated from God, both now and forever.

So, when we choose to sin, we are choosing to be separated from God. Sin promises us happiness or pleasure, but it only leads to spiritual emptiness and separation from God’s love and presence. This is a serious thing because being apart from God means we miss out on the best life we can have, both now and after we die.

2. The “Gift of God”

The verse then says, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Let’s look at this part:

- Gift: Unlike wages, a gift is not something we earn. It’s given freely, without us working for it.
- Eternal Life: This means a life with God that never ends. It’s a life filled with joy, peace, and purpose.
- In Christ Jesus: This gift comes through Jesus, who died on the cross and rose again to take away our sins.

God’s gift is the opposite of what we earn through sin. Instead of death and separation, God offers us life and closeness with Him. This gift shows how much God loves us.
