Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: CHOOSING FAITH OVER POPULAR OPINION
READ: Galatians 1

Verse of the Day: Galatians 1:10

Devotional Message:
(Galatians 1:10)
"Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."

In our everyday lives, we often find ourselves trying to fit in or gain the approval of others. We want to be liked, respected, or even admired by the people around us—our family, friends, colleagues, or even strangers on social media. It's a natural human desire to be accepted and valued. But in Galatians 1:10, Paul challenges us to think differently. He reminds us that if we are followers of Christ, our first priority should be to seek God's approval, not the approval of people.

Paul was addressing the Galatian church because some people were trying to distort the gospel of Christ, making it more appealing to others. They were more concerned with being popular or accepted rather than staying true to God's message. Paul boldly states that if he were still trying to please people, he would not be a true servant of Christ. This shows us that serving God and seeking human approval are often at odds with each other.

Application:
Let's bring this into our own lives. Think about the decisions you make each day—how you speak, act, or even what you post online. How often do you find yourself adjusting your actions to make sure others think well of you? It might be something as simple as not speaking up about your faith because you're afraid of what others might think, or going along with something you know isn’t right just to avoid conflict or rejection.

But as Paul teaches us, living as a servant of Christ means making choices that honor God, even if those choices aren’t popular or don’t gain the approval of others. This doesn’t mean we have to be rude or inconsiderate. It simply means that our loyalty to God should come first. When we live to please God, we find true freedom. We no longer have to be enslaved by the opinions of others. Instead, we can rest in the assurance that we are doing what is right in God’s eyes, which is far more valuable than any human approval.

So, the next time you face a decision where you're tempted to prioritize what others think, pause and ask yourself: "What would please God in this situation?" It might be challenging, and sometimes it may even cost you relationships or opportunities, but the peace and fulfillment that come from knowing you’re living for God’s approval are worth it. And as you consistently make choices that honor God, you'll find that your faith and relationship with Him grow stronger, and you become a true servant of Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to seek Your approval above all else. Give me the courage to make choices that honor You, even when it’s difficult. Let my life be a reflection of my love and devotion to You. Amen.
