Devotional Topic: Confidence in Prayer
READ: 1 John 5
Verse of the Day: 1 John 5:14
Devotional Message:
(1 John 5:14)
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."
Observation:
This verse teaches us two important things about prayer.
First, it says that we can have confidence when we pray. Confidence means being sure of something. God wants us to come to Him boldly, without fear or hesitation, because He loves us and wants to hear from us. Just like how a child freely talks to a loving parent, we can talk to God knowing that He cares about every part of our lives.
Second, it tells us that our prayers should align with God's will. This doesn't mean we can ask for anything and expect it to happen instantly. Instead, it challenges us to trust that God's plan is always better than ours. Sometimes, we may not understand His answers, especially when He says “no” or “wait.” But we can be confident that His response is always for our good and His glory.
It’s also a reminder that God doesn’t ignore us. He hears every prayer we speak and even the silent cries of our hearts. When we pray according to His will, we can trust that God is working things out in His perfect time, even if we don’t see immediate results.
Application:
How can we apply this truth in our daily lives?
1. Pray with Boldness: Don’t be afraid to talk to God about everything, whether it’s big decisions, small worries, or dreams for the future. Trust that He’s listening and cares about your concerns.
2. Seek His Will: Before asking for what you want, take time to understand what God’s will might be. Read His Word, reflect on His promises, and ask Him to guide your thoughts and desires. For example, instead of praying, "Lord, give me this job," try praying, "Lord, if this job is in Your plan for me, please open the door."
3. Trust His Answers: Remember that God’s answers can come in different forms—yes, no, or wait. If you feel like God hasn’t answered your prayer, it doesn’t mean He didn’t hear you. Trust His timing and keep praying with a heart that says, “Your will be done.”
4. Be Persistent: Just because a prayer isn’t answered right away doesn’t mean we should stop praying. Keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking, knowing that God works in ways we often don’t see at first.
5. Thank Him Always: Whether you receive what you ask for or not, thank God for His faithfulness. Gratitude helps us recognize that God’s plans are far greater than our limited understanding.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of coming to You in prayer. Help us to trust in Your will, knowing that You hear us and have the best plans for our lives. Teach us to pray boldly and with faith, always seeking Your guidance. Thank You for Your love and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
