Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "LIKE OUR GREAT TEACHER"

Verse of the Day: Luke 6:40

Devotional Message:
(Luke 6:40)
"The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher."

Observation

Have you ever noticed how children often imitate their parents? They watch closely, copy the way they talk, and even pick up their habits—both good and bad. The same thing happens in school. A student learns from the teacher, following instructions, practicing new skills, and adopting their ways of thinking. The more a student listens and follows, the more they grow to be like their teacher.

Jesus reminds us in Luke 6:40 that when we are fully trained, we will be like our teacher. As Christians, Jesus is our greatest teacher. He showed us how to live with kindness, patience, humility, and love. He forgave sinners, healed the sick, and cared for those in need. If we truly follow Him, learning from His words and actions, we will become more like Him.

But this does not happen overnight. It requires time, effort, and a willing heart. A student must listen carefully, practice what they learn, and remain disciplined. In the same way, we must study God’s Word, follow His teachings, and apply them in our daily lives.

Application

Think about the people who influence you the most. Who do you look up to? Who do you learn from? The world has many voices trying to teach us different things. Some encourage us to seek success, wealth, or popularity. Others teach us to be selfish, to seek revenge, or to live only for ourselves.

But Jesus calls us to a different path—a path of love, humility, and faithfulness. If we want to be like Jesus, we must train ourselves in His ways. This means:

1. Reading the Bible – The Bible is our training manual. Just as a student studies textbooks, we must study God’s Word daily. The more we read, the more we understand His heart.

2. Praying – Talking to God helps us grow in our relationship with Him. A student asks questions when they don’t understand something. In the same way, we should pray and seek wisdom from God.

3. Obeying His Teachings – It’s not enough to just listen; we must also act. If Jesus teaches us to forgive, we should practice forgiveness. If He teaches us to love our enemies, we should strive to love even when it’s difficult.

4. Surrounding Ourselves with Good Mentors – Just as students learn better with good teachers, we grow spiritually when we surround ourselves with people who encourage and guide us in faith.

If we keep learning from Jesus, we will reflect His character more and more. Just like how a student, after years of training, becomes like their teacher, we too will grow to be more like Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being our greatest Teacher. Help us to learn from You and follow Your ways. Give us wisdom and patience as we grow in faith. Help us to reflect Your love, kindness, and humility in everything we do. Teach us to be more like You every day. Amen.
